Megadeth was founded in 1983 by Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson. Mustaine had been kicked out of Metallica for being a drug abusing, alchoholic prick and needed a new band. He started Metallica and kind of gave them a run for their money for a little while, at least in some people's opinions. Supposedly there were people who were "Team Megadeth" and not down with Metallica. Their loss.
